Toll-free Severn Crossings brought forward to 17th December 2018

Commenting on the announcement from the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Wales that all tolls will be permanently scrapped ahead of schedule on the Prince of Wales bridge and the original Severn Crossing between Wales and England, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Economy & Transport, Russell George AM, said:

“Scrapping the tolls early will make way for a £100 million boost to the regional economy, transforming it overnight, whilst proving that Wales is well and truly open for business.

â€œIt will also deliver an early Christmas present for hard working commuters who will be £1,400 per year better off, improving economic prospects for working people.

â€œOnce again Conservatives are delivering for Wales, and this announcement from the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Wales will drive significant economic benefits to the wider region around the crossings.

â€œIt will pave the way for an economic powerhouse between South Wales and the West of England – a £1 billion boost over the next decade.

â€œThis bold decision by the UK Conservative Government will encourage greater investment, make our economy more competitive and is a shot in the arm for the Welsh economy.â€
