Following a behind-closed-doors extraordinary meeting of Bridgend Council yesterday afternoon (1st May 2019), BCBC appointed Mark Shephard as the new Chief Executive of the council.

He will replace Darren Mepham, who left in January to take up a position as Chief Executive of Barnet & Southgate College in London.

Mark was already serving as interim chief executive, having been BCBC’s Communities Director for several years. That role included responsibility for planning, highways, waste collection (including, presumably, negotiating the controversial waste contract with Kier), parks and regeneration.

The appointments process was overseen by a cross-party Appointments Committee.

Council Leader, Cllr. Huw David (Lab, Cefn Cribwr), told Wales Online: “Not only does Mark possess all of the right qualities to offer BCBC outstanding leadership, he has a clear understanding of the challenges we face and will enable the authority to build on opportunities for protecting and improving services.”
