Sanitary products will be available in schools following the announcement of a new £2.3million fund.
Over 141,000 girls in Welsh primary and secondary schools will benefit from the Period Dignity Grant for Schools. Products will be free-of-charge, and accessible in the most practice and appropriate way possible.
Schools will be encouraged to support reusable, environmentally sustainable products to allow maximum choice for learners.
The money is to be made available immediately, through local authorities.
Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat Education Minister, said:
“I want our education system to promote the physical, emotional and mental health of our pupils. Young women should not be forced into missing days of their education because they can’t access sanitary products, and this funding – building on previous announcements – should help address the problem.”
